Before Angel & spent a year traveling by boat doing America's Great Loop, She really wanted to take a vacation on land. We decided a trip to Las Vegas was in order. While we were there we rented a SUV and did a lot of exploring. While exploring the areas outside of the city, we saw lots of motorhomes just set up along side the roads. We later found out that this is referred to as "Boondocking" and this is a very common way to camp in the west. The are large tracks of land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). We were both very intrigued and thought it would be fun to buy a motorhome after completing the Great Loop.
After we completed our loop in June if 2022, we started looking at Class A Motorhomes. While we did not really know what we wanted we had a couple of parameters. First was length, 35 feet seemed to be the ideal length. This was based mostly on the limits at most of the National Parks, 35 feet is the longest most of them can accommodate. Angel's wish list included 2 bath rooms, fire place, king bed and room for guest to sleep. My only addition to the wish list was a diesel engine. We both want a a motorhome that was less than 10 years old.
The first motorhome we looked at was a 2014 Tiffin that was a private sale (verses a dealer) While we both loved the motorhome, it did not check all of our boxes. The biggest draw back was it only had one bed. We spent a couple of months looking at several motorhomes. Some of the ones we looked at were in really bad shape, other ones looked good on the surface but there were signs of neglect. One thing each one of them had in common was that we kept comparing them to the first one we looked at.
We decided we wanted to look at the Tiffin again, but the original listing was gone, and it had been relisted with Pop RV, at an even higher price. We reached out to the sellers directly and purchase it for slightly less than their original asking price. One of the bonuses of buying the Tiffin was that it came with a 2004 Jeep Liberty that was set up for flat towing behind the motorhome.
On October 23, 2022 Angel & I became the proud owners of a 2014 Tiffin Open Road Allegro. We jumped into owning a motorhome with both feet. When we picked it up, we went directly from the sellers house to an RV resort.
